Mario Hezonja

GUARD/FORWARD MARIO HEZONJA BC ZAGREB
D.O.B.:25.02.1995.
HEIGHT: 6’6”/199cm
WEIGHT: 200lbs
PERSONAL: originally from Dubrovnik, Croatia…plays for BC Zagreb’s cadet & junior selections…

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: impressed in 2010 NIJT in Rome, Italy where he led all scorers with an average of 19.5 points per game…impressed in 2011 NIJT in Barcelona while co-leading the team  to European junior club champion title with 20.3 ppg and 8.9 rpg…MVP and leading scorer (36.0 ppg) of 2011 Croatian Cadet Championship Final Four in Zagreb while leading the team to the title…

WHAT HE HAS: plays with poise…extraordinary jumping ability…versatility on the both ends of the court…tough around basket, fights for lose ball regularly…demands the ball…can play positions 1-4 on current level…excellent shooting mechanics…coaches grade his recent development as “rapid”…he has obviousely outgrown the age category he plays within…

WHAT HE NEEDS TO IMPROVE: needs to become more aggressive on the defensive end…needs to drive the ball more, especially to the left…needs to improve his shot selection…needs to improve his low post moves…sometimes he “roams” to much while expecting that he will get the ball for the transition dunk…he needs to learn right ways to encourage his teammates…and the most important: he needs to stay firmly on the ground and focused…

COMPARISON: Although many regional basketball VIPs claim he is the second coming of the legendary ex-Yugoslav SF Drazen Dalipagic his explosiveness, toughness and skill set remind on legendary Lithuanian SG Sarunas Marciulionis. If he grows another couple of inches he could become reminiscent of BC Zagreb product G/F Marko Tomas

RECENT UPDATE:

– has moved from #23 to #15 in CroHoops.com U22 rankings – 2010-10-29

– has “dynamite” in his legs. His explosiveness makes him one of the TOP U20 prospects in Croatia. One of the rare players we would actually buy a tickets to see his every game. Electrifying, often spectacular in transition. – 2011-01-30

– although he clearly dominated in 2011 Croatian Cadet Championship Final Four in Zagreb, with spectacular dunks and overall display of the skill set he had huge problem with long distance shooting selection while going 0-16 in the semifinal game vs Feniks. He needs to give more value to each ball possetion and try to involve his teammates more in the game. He also needs to develop his communication skills with the teammates and firmly stay on the ground and focus – 08-06-2011
