Toni Prostran, Croatian U19 NT 2009.
After skipping the complete season Zagreb CO talented point guard Toni Prostran (6’0”/1991)
is reportedly ready for what he did best in the last couple of years – representing Croatia in various FIBA youth competitions during the summer.
This year Toni will wear Croatian junior NT uniform for the last time in his life while playing on FIBA U20 European Championship which will be held in Bilbao (Spain) from July 14th until July 20th. Croatia will face France, Latvia and Sweden.
Despite numerous injuries in the last couple of seasons with Zagreb CO, Toni has stayed optimistic and will be a great addition for Croatian junior NT which is currently preparing in the town of Daruvar. Here is his exclusive statement for CroHoops.com:
“I think we have a good team and if we stay healthy we might be able to reach the medal zone. As for me, my only wish is that I don’t have any further problems with injuries. I will try to prepare the best I can in order to reach optimal competitive level. I truly hope I will confirm my qualities on European Championship.”
With Toni in charge of the point guard duties, head coach Ivan Velic (Siroki TT Kabeli) will have to focus how to solve the absence of big man Dragan Sekelja (7’0”/1991/Florida Atlantic (NCAA)) who is about to leave to U.S.A. due to academic obligations.
As it seems Velic will most likely have to distribute frontcourt obligations between C Domagoj Bubalo (Zagreb CO) and PF Ivan Buva (Cedevita Zagreb).
