Croatian basketball expert and ex-Croatian NT coach Jasmin Repesa took over as the new head coach of the struggling powerhouse Cibona Zagreb less then 24 hours after it’s team suffered a last second 90:89 defeat to Zadar in the 1/8 finals leg of Kresimir Cosic Cup.

According to several sources Cibona Zagreb is reportedly very close to sign ex-Croatian NT head coach and recognized international expert Jasmin Repesa to 4Y/1M€ deal.

 

If that really happens Repesa would take over Cibona’s head coaching helm from the interim coach Danijel Lutz not later then Friday. Cibona is about to face tough Cedevita squad on Saturday in the derby of Adriatic League’s 10th round.

Chris Warren

Back to Croatia: G/F Chris Warren

 

Cedevita has done masterful job by bringing in experienced swingman Chris Warren to add even more “fire power” to it’s potent backcourt Dontaye Draper and Marko Car.

 

Warren who starred for Cibona from 2006 until 2008 while playing for the new Cedevita’s head coach Drazen Anzulovic spent the last couple of seasons in Air Avellino (Italy) and Bilbao Basket (Spain).

 

Known for his excellent defense and explosive first step Warren has strenghten up his connection with Croatia and Zagreb when he married Tia Jurcic in 2010.

Damjan Rudez

According to team’s web site Cibona Zagreb has signed sharpshooting SF Damjan Rudez (6’8”, 1986).

 

Native of Zagreb spent the last couple of seasons with Cedevita Zagreb and was rumored to sign with Zagreb CO just a week ago.

 

Along with signees Kovacevic & Suton, Rudez will certainly provide additional (scoring) spark in the team’s upcoming Euroleague qualifications.

Goran Suton

Goran Suton vs Tyler Hansbrough

 

According to official team web site Cibona Zagreb has signed one-year deal with experienced and hard working PF Goran Suton (6’10”/1985).

 

Suton, who starred for Michigan State Spartans and led them to 2009 NCAA Final Four appearance spent the last couple of seasons playing in Russia and Italy.

 

Suton’s international experience could be a nice supplement to Cibona’s prospects and should improve Cibona’s chances to reach Euroleague through qualifications.

Chris Owens

According to it’s official web site Croatian runner-up Cedevita Zagreb has signed veteran power forward Chris Owens (6’8”/1979) who spent the last season with Azovmash Donjeck (Ukraine).

 

Owens had  a couple of very successfull outings against Cedevita in the last season’s Eurocup in which he averaged 15.3 points and 7.5 boards per game.

 

Cedevita’s head coach Drazen Anzulovic had the chance to coach Owens in Azovmash:

“I have coached him in Donjeck and I know that he is a player with the profile which we  have been looking for. He has very good overall qualities and will bring us additional quality under the basket since he is able to play both PF and C positions.”

Stanko Barac

C Stanko Barac, Caja Laboral (ACB, Spain)

 

 

Croatian big man Stanko Barac (7’2”/1986), who was reportedly mentioned in this year’s Larry Bird’s postdraft speech, is likely to sign a three-year deal with the Turkish powerhouse Efes Pilsen Istanbul.

 

Turkey in general has see little or no sign of economic recession so far. It’s basketball clubs still have plenty of buying power to remain the leading “players” on the market.

 

In Istanbul Barac will join existing “Croatian colony” consisting of PG Roko Ukic, G/F Marko Tomas, G/F Bojan Bogdanovic (all three playing for Fenerbahce Ulker) and PF/C Luksa Andric (Galatasaray).
