According to the sources close to Croatian Champion Zagreb CO, which opened up it’s first ever Euroleague campaign with embarrassing 96:65 loss to Bamberg (Germany), 2010/11 NBA MVP Derrick Rose was close to reaching an agreement with the club.

However sources close to Chicago Bulls’ SG claim there were basically no negotiations and the whole story looks like a publicity stunt made up by Zagreb CO front office staff.

Independent basketball expert close to CroHoops.com stated that “Rose eventual arrival would definitely boost the team which features European phenoms Saric and Hezonja, but I firmly believe that at this point Zagreb CO is not on organizational/player level which could keep up with him.”

Dontaye Draper, last season’s Eurocup MVP was just too much for Elan Chalon

After the tight battle throughout the first three quarters Cedevita Zagreb was able to reach double digit lead and win it’s Eurocup qualifications rematch vs Elan Chalon (France) by 84:69. Elan won the first game in Chalon by 78:73 so Cedevita had to win this game with no less than 6 points to advance through.

On it’s way to an very important victory coach Anzulovic’s squad demonstrated solid level of team defence, won the battle of the boards (41:26) and was able to break Chalon’s wholecourt press.

Croatian NT point guard Dontaye Draper paced Cedevita with 18 points and 10 assists to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. G/F Mario Bazdaric added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

After Thursday victory over Cholet, Cibona Zagreb suffered 71:88 loss in the 2011 Euroleague qualification elimination game vs Lietuvos Rytas coached by Aleksandar Dzikic.

Cibona got heavily outrebounded by 44:19 and will miss Euroleague for the first time since being one of it’s original teams back in inaugural 1990/91 season.

“We played quite well in the first hald and we expected to continue with that after the break. I warned my players that Lietuvos rytas has pretty strong power forwards, like Katelynas, but we still couldn’t stop them. Unfortunately, it’s not enough to play well for 10 minutes to win the game.” – head coach Josip Vrankovic (source: Euroleague.net)

Lietuvos has been paced by PG Tyrese Rice who had 19 points to along with 6 assists. Off-season acquisitions F/C Goran Suton and G Demonte Harper both had 13 points for Cibona.
